New USCIS I-9 form
Last year, we reported on the new United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Employment Eligibility Verification, or I-9 Form. USCIS says you must begin using the new I-9 by Sept. 18, 2017.
The new I-9 form is dated 07/17/17 (in the lower left corner) and replaces the version dated 11/14/2016. The only changes to the new form are a few minor requirements in acceptable documents, such as the addition of Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240) and other certifications of birth issued by the Department of State (Form FS-545, Form DS-1350 and Form FS-240).
USCIS says the new PDF contains all the smart features unveiled earlier to help employers reduce errors and complete the form more easily.
It’s worth noting that USCIS recently confirmed the hiring of 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, a move some analysts say could triple the number of I-9 workplace audits.
A handbook offering guidance for completing the I-9 for employers is available.
